If you are a member of another health plan and want to join, you must first change your health plan to Texas Children’s Health Plan.

How to change health plans if you are a STAR Medicaid member

STAR Medicaid members can change health plans by calling 1-800-964-2777.

• Tell them you would like to switch to Texas Children’s Health Plan. You can change health plans only once a month.

How to change health plans if you are a CHIP member

CHIP members can change health plans by calling 1-877-543-7669. Tell them you would like to switch to Texas Children’s Health Plan.

• You can only change your child’s CHIP medical or dental plans within the first 90 days from the time your child’s CHIP coverage starts, when you renew your child’s CHIP coverage, or if you move out of your CHIP service area.

Schedule a visit or change your provider

After you change your health plan to Texas Children’s Health Plan, call us at 832-828-1005 to schedule your first visit.

You must call Texas Children's Health Plan to change your provider.

CHIP members can call 1-866-959-6555, and STAR members can call 1-866-959-2555.

When will my child’s primary care provider change become effective?

The change will take effect immediately. A new member ID card will be mailed to you. The ID card will have our name and phone number. Be sure to have your or your child’s medical records sent to us. To give your child the best care, we need to know your or your child’s medical history.

If you qualify for CHIP or Medicaid, you can get quality low-cost health coverage from Texas Children’s Health Plan. See if you qualify.
